Quickway Constructions Secures Two Major Projects with Byron Shire Council

Quickway Constructions is proud to announce that it has been awarded two significant contracts by Byron Shire Council to support the ongoing flood restoration efforts in the Wilsons Creek area, addressing critical infrastructure damage caused by the 2022 floods. These projects underscore Quickway’s expertise in delivering complex civil engineering solutions and our commitment to enhancing community resilience.

Project 1: Wilsons Creek Road Culvert Replacements

Quickway Constructions has been contracted to replace and repair 55 culvert crossings along Wilsons Creek Road as part of a Design and Construct contract. This vital project, commencing in August 2025, will improve drainage infrastructure to enhance road resilience and safety. The works, primarily conducted as night operations to minimise disruption, are expected to be completed by the end of September 2025. This initiative is part of a broader effort to restore critical public assets damaged during the 2022 floods, ensuring safer and more reliable access for the Wilsons Creek community.

Project 2: Design, Construct, and Certify Embankment Failure Repair on Wilsons Creek Road

Quickway has also been awarded a Design, Construct, and Certify contract to repair a significant embankment failure near 803 Wilsons Creek Road. The project, which began recently and is slated for completion by early September 2025, involves the removal of temporary emergency works, the installation of rockfill support, and the construction of a mass block retaining wall to stabilise the embankment. The repaired embankment will be topped with a rock mattress and new pavement to restore the road surface, ensuring long-term stability and safety.

Both projects are jointly funded by the Australian and NSW Governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements, with additional support from the Infrastructure Betterment Fund through the Regional Road and Transport Recovery Program. These initiatives reflect Quickway’s ongoing work with Byron Shire Council, building on our successful delivery of previous infrastructure projects, including rural bridge replacements under the Fixing Country Bridge Program.

“We are honoured to work with Byron Shire Council on these critical restoration projects,” said Pieter Van Heerden, Division Manager – Transport at Quickway Constructions. “Our team is dedicated to delivering high-quality, resilient infrastructure that supports the Wilsons Creek community and ensures safer roads for years to come. We thank the Council and the community for their trust and cooperation as we undertake these important works.”

Quickway Constructions is committed to minimising disruptions during construction. We urge road users to follow signage, adhere to reduced speed limits, and remain vigilant near work sites to ensure the safety of both the public and our workers.
