Projects

Singleton Bypass, Electrical & Telecommunications Works

Project Overview:

Quickway were engaged to undertake early enabling works for both the Telecommunication relocations and the Electrical relocations, prior to the main construction works on the Singleton Bypass.

Project Description:

The scope of works included the following:

Electrical Works

  • Circa 1900 metres of LV, HV and 66kV Transmission Overhead and Underground electrical relocation for Singleton Bypass enabling works. This included:
  • 1400 metres of 11kV Overhead Electrical cabling, and associated poles.
  • 225 metres of 11kV underground electrical trenching works.
  • 240 metres of 66kV Overhead Electrical cabling and poles.

Telecommunications Works

  • Telstra: 5580 metres of trenching works for the main telecommunication network. In addition, there was also in excess of 500 metres of trenchless bores (primarily Horizontal Directional Drills) throughout the alignment.
  • TPG: 1855 metres of trenching works for the TPG only network. In addition, there was also in excess of 560 metres of trenchless bores (primarily Horizontal Directional Drills) throughout the alignment.
  • NBN: NBN only required an additional 71 metres of trench (in addition to the main backbone through the Telstra networks).
  • The works required significant collaboration with each of the asset owners to ensure that they had representatives on site for the placement of conduits and pits and ensure quality systems for each of the network providers were facilitated throughout the construction works.
  • In addition, our offer also allowed to engage each of the asset owners for the supply, installation and testing & commissioning of all networks.

Other Scope inclusions

  • Development of the design, and completion of the WAE drawings for the full works.
  • Survey for set-out and Work As Executed design drawings
  • Sediment and erosion control for the works.
  • Clear & grubbing the alignment for the works.
  • Site investigations (geotechnical and potholing) to determine the ground conditions and space-proofing of all assets prior to installation.
  • Construction of concrete foundations for pit bases and suspension pole footings.
  • Traffic Planning and management for all site works.
  • Jemena Gas and ARTC Optic fibre relocations completed as Variations to the original scope.

Key Challenges/Highlights:

Quickway delivered this project with Transport for NSW collaboratively and to a very high standard.

Some of the key highlights include:

  • Design: Optimisation of design alignment and road crossings maximise daytime working and safety to the public and workers.
  • Design: Worked with TfNSW to redesign road crossings, utilising trenchless excavation/bores in lieu of open trenching, to eliminate noisy and high risk nightwork.
  • Quality: Project records, quality documentation and client correspondence were managed through iTWOcx Software, enabling an integrated review and approval workflow with TfNSW.
  • Environment: No breaches to legislation or Project specific approval documentation occurred, and achieved 100% green light from TfNSW, ER and DPiE Environmental inspections.
  • Stakeholder Management: Extensive coordination with key stakeholders including local residents and businesses, ARTC, Ausgrid, Jemena Gas, Singleton Council and various Telecommunications providers.
  • Tim/Program: the project was completed on schedule.
  • Collaboration: Great working relationship with TfNSW at all levels so that issues are openly discussed and dealt with in a timely manner. TfNSW were excellent to work with throughout the project delivery.
