Project Overview:
Following the extreme weather event in 2022, there were significant impacts to the Blue Mountains road network. Transport for NSW engaged contractors to carry out pavement and slope repair work to return the Great Western Highway, Bells Line of Road, Putty Road and Hawkesbury Road to full capacity.
Project Description:
The works involves the remediation/stabilisation of Slopes 33459, 93282 and 96403 on MR184 Bells Line of Road (BLOR) at Mount Tomah.
The scope of works for all 3 sites includes:
- Site establishment
- Traffic Management Plans and traffic control to facilitate the construction of the Works
- Provision of site accommodation
- Searching for and protecting public utility services
- Maintenance of the existing roadway including adjacent slopes (fill embankments and cut faces) for the entirety of the Works
- Design, implement, maintain, and decommissioning/removal of temporary erosion and sedimentation controls
- Pre-construction and post-construction condition assessment
Slope 33459
- Wash down facilities to ensure that all equipment, vehicles and personnel entering the BMBG comply with the BMBG hygiene requirements.
- Testing of material to ensure compliance with BMBG hygiene requirements.
- Drainage works including trench drains, pit and pipe network and in situ fibre reinforced concrete open drain.
- In situ reinforced concrete pile wall
- Soil nailing
- Earthworks including clearing and grubbing, scaling, air blasting, removal and stockpile of topsoil (if required) and disposal of spoil material.
- Shotcrete including doweling into the cut face, strip drains, weep hole pipes and reinforcement.
- Revegetation and landscaping of disturbed areas.
Slope 93282
- Earthworks including clearing and grubbing, removal and stockpile of topsoil (if required), excavation of cutting, disposal of spoil material, import and placement of rock fill material and import and placement of select material.
- In situ reinforced concrete footing
- Gabion basket wall including mesh earth straps.
- Drainage works (subsurface behind wall)
- Shotcrete to be applied to face of the lower baskets.
- Revegetation and landscaping of disturbed areas.
Slope 96403
- Earthworks including clearing and grubbing of existing road pavement and disposal of
- spoil material
- In situ reinforced concrete pile wall
- In situ reinforced concrete capping beam
- Gabion basket wall including mesh earth straps.
- Drainage works including batter shoots and rehabilitation of existing culvert headwall outlets.
- Road furniture including tri-beam safety barrier and transition to existing w-beam safety barrier.
- Revegetation and landscaping of disturbed areas.
