Projects

Robert St TBM Watermain

Project Overview:

The TBM Watermain project was delivered for AFJV on behalf of Sydney Metro as part of the Station excavation and tunnelling works between The Bays and Sydney Olympic Park. The newly constructed watermain is feeding the Tunnel Boring Machine which is expected to operate for 2 years.

Project Description:

Our scope involved the installation of 100m of DN 300 DICL pipeline along Robert Street, Rozelle (Sydney Water main) and 200m of Private water main ranging in DN 400 HDPE and SCL 324 OD pipe. The DN 300 DICL main was connected to an existing DN 600 CICL main using hot tapping methodology. The works were complex given the busy road, noise restrictions and tight timeframes for delivery, along with service clashes and hard rock.

Key Challenges:

Our team were required to overcome design delays (horizontal directional drilling methodology was changed to open trench methodology for the private water main section).

Restrictions on night works (Strict Out of Hours Work restrictions were adhered to in line with the Community and Stakeholder Engagement Plan (3 night per week)

Adverse ground conditions including rock excavation.

Excavation of private water main was done through heritage sites in accordance with Heritage Management Plan.
